Second time around

So we had to do this skinning really quick since Andy had to go to work.
A really nice blue mattress. The edge is wet from the rain, the plastic didn't cover all of it.

This blue mattress was a little odd. It’s a pillow top mattress, but it’s pillow top on both sides.
As we were taking off the top of the mattress, we couldn't figure out was was going on with the foam underneath. Upon closer inspection, and some deep cutting, we found another mattress pad.

Everything all sprawled out.

In the meantime….

this is the other mattress we found. I couldn't skin it, it smelled SO BAD! It was also really stained, and the back of it had no quilting on it. It was just flat.

The other mattress we found, along with the springs are extra foam of the blue mattress.

The other mattresses we’ve found have been a little shinny, and this one wasn’t. Andy tried to talk to into keeping it, but hey- we got two mattress out of the blue one.. so out this one went.

So this is weird:

Do you think the mattress industry is taking old mattress, and re-covering them? This is super odd...
This a label on the inside mattress pad we found….

Do you think the mattress industry is taking old mattress, and re-covering them? This is super odd…I can’t think of any reason why the label would be on the inside of the mattress. I really can’t figure out why there was another mattress pad inside the foam. If anyone has any insights, let me know.

In the meantime….

trying to squish things in bags

and here we are again.

and here we are again.

So tomorrow we’re going to try to wash the pads.  Possibly get them wet out in the alleyway and scrub them to death with simple green.  We need to rig up a clothesline to hang them from to dry from too.  I need to start working on the templates so we can start cutting them in cute bunny shapes.  Unfortunately, there’s no kraft paper in the house, and I haven’t been able to go out and buy a roll.  Ah, the days of being an art student and having all the brown paper I wanted at my fingertips.. .
